I am a former Queensland Police Sergeant who was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in 2011. I retired on medical grounds in 2014 after serving for almost 12 years. After retiring from the Queensland Police Service, I studied law for 12 months before deferring my degree to pursue other qualifications. Whilst studying, I have dedicated much of my time to providing voluntary support and assistance to Queensland police who have been diagnosed with work-related psychological injuries.
I understand the challenges you are facing because I have been where you are now. The task of submitting workers’ compensation claims, reviewing or appealing insurer’s decisions, and completing work-related correspondence while you are unwell can be extremely overwhelming. That is why Justice 4 Workers Qld removes that burden by taking care of those matters and advocating on your behalf while you focus on your recovery. Justice 4 Workers will assist you to navigate and understand the complex workers’ compensation and injury management processes, and provide you with a better overall understanding of the options available to you.
I am passionate and committed to fighting for those who have experienced unfairness or injustice, and who are prevented by illness from coping alone with the obstacles that a psychological injury presents. I know what it is like to face the hurdles of workers’ compensation claims, the rehabilitation and return to work process, independent medical examinations, medical assessment tribunals, medical retirement, personal injury claims, and superannuation claims. I have an intimate understanding of what you are dealing with and I offer a compassionate and personalised approach to the services I provide as you transition through these processes.
In addition to my personal experience, my research and studies have given me with a strong understanding of the Queensland workers’ compensation system, particularly relating to psychological injury matters. I’m a strong advocate for changes to the current workers’ compensation system and for seeking improved organisational support for psychologically injured workers.
My qualifications include:
- Graduate Certificate in Industrial Relations (Post-graduate level – Charles Sturt University)
- Diploma of Work Health and Safety
- Diploma of Leadership and Management
- Diploma of Public Safety (Policing)
- Advanced Diploma of Justice; and
- Cert IV in Training and Assessment
